have you heard about life listing? The idea is simple, and I’ve found myself working on variations of it for years. One line after another, goal after dream after brilliant idea - until the paper is full and so are your head and heart. I’ve read a few other blogs that are big into having “a list” - one hundred lines, set. can be anything, everything, reach for the stars sort of stuff, things you’ve been putting off for years, that thing you keep telling yourself you couldn’t ever actually do. I like the idea of 100, and though I haven’t created my entire list yet, I’ve definitely added a few bullet points in the last few weeks - here’s an installment:
1) Live on a houseboat.
2) cook a fabulous meal for 10+. Don’t forget dessert.
3) Write a book. and then another.
4) Live in Sausalito.
5) Buy a beach house, decorate to the extreme.
6) illustrate a children’s book.
7) build a treehouse.
8) go to paris.
9) run a hotel. live in the penthouse.
10) direct a summer camp.
11) see SNL - live.
12) sail across an ocean.
13) skinny dipping (warm water).
that’s enough for now. xoxo
This is David and I, from our kayaking co-leader days this summer. On this day we were wrapping up “flip tests” for a few of our campers that still needed to pass this daunting task (involving submerging themselves in the chilly water and then re-entering their kayak, right side up). Those kids succeeded, and to share that success with them has been one of the highlights of my life.
Summer 2011 was miraculous in so many ways, often thanks to David. This photo is featured in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign, and it’s exciting and gratifying to see ourselves as part of this effort to send more kids to camp. I love life.
